Bred by Alain Meilland (France, 1963).
Introduced in France by URS (Universal Rose Selection)-Meilland as 'Papa Meilland'.
Hybrid Tea.
Dark red. Strong, old rose fragrance. 35 petals. Full (26-40 petals), exhibition, high-centered bloom form. Blooms in flushes throughout the season.
Upright. Large, glossy, dark green foliage.
Height of 35" to 4' (90 to 120 cm). Width of 2' to 4' (60 to 120 cm).
USDA zone 7b and warmer. Can be used for cut flower. Benefits from winter protection in colder climates. Disease susceptibility: susceptible to disease, susceptible to blackspot , susceptible to Mildew. Protect tender new spring growth from hard freezes that may cause canker, die-back and death of the plant. . Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that. Requires spring freeze protection (see glossary - Spring freeze protection) . Can be grown in the ground or in a container (container requires winter protection). Requires good cultivation if it is to perform its best.
