Bred by Jean-Pierre Vibert (France, 1846).
Introduced in Australia by Camden Park in 1850 as 'Joasine Hanet'.
Found Rose, Damask Perpetual, Hybrid Perpetual, Portland.
Deep pink, violet shading. Strong, damask fragrance. Average diameter 2.25". Medium, full (26-40 petals), cluster-flowered, button-eye, quartered bloom form. Blooms in flushes throughout the season.
Armed with thorns / prickles, bushy, suckers on its own roots.

Height: 8' (245cm).
USDA zone 5a through 9b. Hardy. drought resistant. flowers drop off cleanly. Disease susceptibility: susceptible to rust . Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood.. Can be pruned to maintain a shorter habit.

Identification as Joasine Hanet is accepted by the ARS, but contested by several expert rosarians.

From Pat Toolan in So. Australia, "I noticed in an old catalogue 'Joasine Hanet' for the first time the other day as we too have a rose which I feel is the same as "Portland from Glendora" We call it "Kew Cemetery Portland" - from the descriptions being aired it has to be the same rose as our unknown here."

Tom Liggett of Liggett's Rose Nursery says "The Portland From Glendora" is also known as 'McGregor Damask" ... the deep purple-pink flowers are very double with a button eye...
